Kanu went and got a mortar and a pestle and a fanning basket.

They said “Ah, we! We have cut; but we will not be able to put in fire---it is soaked”.

Kanu brought out the sun. It was hot. It shone for a month. It became dry. They went and put fire to it. It burnt. They hoed.

Then they said “Ah, we! We have hoed; but it will not grow---there is only the sun shining”. Kanu said “All right. I will help you”.

He brought out the rain. It came, at night. Before they had gone in the morning, it was soaked. They said “Ah, Kanu; thank you”.

The rice--in six days--it began to grow; in twelve, it had leaves. It grew big in two months. In the third month, it got seeds below. It was in ear. In one month it was dry. When it was dry, and the sun was shining, the rice opened up.

Kanu brought the rain. The rain went into the mouth of the rice. For ten days it drank in all the water. In twenty days again it was dry.

They went out and cut it.

They thrashed it.

They dried it over the fire.

They pounded it.

They cooked it.
